Cowboys and Indians, horses and cattle
the icons of the west and they're still in Montana. In
Southeast Montana's Custer Country visitors can have an historic
encounter with a legend and a close encounter with the locals.
Custer Country is 36,500
miles big and includes the largest city in Montana,
Billings,
as well as small towns like Ingomar population 4. One of the main
attractions of Custer Country is history and 28 miles from Billings is
Pompey's Pillar where the only physical evidence of Lewis and Clark's
expedition remains. Arriving via the Yellowstone River William Clark
named the 200 foot high formation after his nickname for the son of
Sacagawea,
his native interpreter,
and scrawled his own name and the date July 25, 1806. For
eons the area was Indian Country now its called Custer Country and
every
year Custer bites the bullet again in Hardin, Montana six miles from the
Little Bighorn Battlefield. The yearly battle reenactment is part of the
town's Little Big Horn Days celebration which includes parades, rodeos
and 1876 Ball. People come from all over the world to participate in the
ball and reenactment. There are two Custer reenactments. The Real Bird
reenactment takes place at the actual site of the battle and is
organized by Ken Real Bird.
The Little Bighorn Battlefield National
Monument offers a military cemetery, monuments, ranger talks, historic
trails, exhibits, films and a driving trail. For all of the attractions
